HTMA: The Most Powerful Window Into Your Body's Stress Adaptations
Why I Believe Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis Is One of the Most Valuable Tools in Personalised Health Care
If you've been told your blood tests are "normal"...
If you've tried countless supplements...
If you've changed your diet, exercised more, slept better, managed your stress—and your body still isn't responding...
You are not alone.
These are the women who often find their way into my clinic.
Women who have worked incredibly hard on their health.
Women who are motivated.
Committed.
Intelligent.
And exhausted from searching.
Many arrive believing they simply haven't found the right supplement, the right protocol, or the right practitioner.
But often, what they're missing isn't another intervention.
It's a deeper understanding of what their body has been adapting to all along.
That is where Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) becomes one of the most valuable tools I use.
More Than A Mineral Test
Most people think HTMA simply identifies mineral deficiencies.
It certainly can.
But that is only a very small part of what I see.
When interpreted correctly, HTMA offers a remarkable insight into how the body has been adapting to stress over time.
It provides a snapshot of cellular mineral patterns that influence:
• energy production
• stress resilience
• nervous system regulation
• metabolic function
• hormone balance
• thyroid physiology
• digestive capacity
• detoxification
• inflammation
• blood sugar regulation
• emotional resilience
Rather than asking,
"What symptom are we trying to fix?"
I ask a different question.
"What has this body been adapting to?"
Because symptoms are often adaptations.
Your Body Is An Ecosystem
One of the biggest shifts in my own clinical career came when I stopped looking at the body as a collection of separate systems.
Instead...
I began seeing it as one interconnected ecosystem.
Nothing works in isolation.
Your nervous system influences your hormones.
Your hormones influence your metabolism.
Your metabolism influences your minerals.
Your minerals influence your energy.
Your energy influences your resilience.
Your resilience influences your nervous system.
Everything is connected.
HTMA allows me to see many of these relationships through the language of mineral patterns.
Minerals Do Far More Than Most People Realise
Minerals are not simply nutrients.
They are catalysts.
Every heartbeat.
Every nerve impulse.
Every hormone.
Every neurotransmitter.
Every muscle contraction.
Every immune response.
Every cell relies on minerals to function properly.
Without adequate mineral balance...
Cells struggle to produce energy.
And when cells cannot produce energy efficiently...
The body begins adapting.
The Story Is In The Ratios
One of the biggest misconceptions about HTMA is that it is simply about whether a mineral is "high" or "low."
That is rarely the most important finding.
What fascinates me are the relationships between minerals.
Because the ratios often tell the bigger story.
For example:
Sodium : Potassium
This is often referred to as one of the body's stress and vitality ratios.
It provides insight into:
• adrenal adaptation
• inflammation
• resilience
• recovery capacity
• cellular voltage
A higher ratio may suggest a body mobilising significant stress physiology.
A lower ratio may suggest depleted adaptive capacity and reduced cellular energy.
Neither is "good" or "bad."
They simply describe where the body is currently adapting.
Calcium : Potassium
Often called the thyroid ratio.
This ratio can provide insight into metabolic activity and how responsive the body may be at a cellular level.
Calcium : Magnesium
This ratio reflects much more than these two minerals alone.
It often provides clues about:
• nervous system balance
• blood sugar regulation
• muscle tension
• stress physiology
• insulin sensitivity
Again...
It is never interpreted in isolation.
Patterns always matter more than single numbers.
The Nervous System Leaves Clues
Perhaps my favourite aspect of HTMA is what it can reveal about nervous system function.
After many years studying mineral balancing, psychoneuroimmunology, trauma-informed care, and now Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT), I began recognising something fascinating.
Many mineral patterns mirror the body's survival adaptations.
Some clients appear physiologically "mobilised."
Others appear depleted.
Some have bodies that have spent years running in high alert.
Others show patterns more consistent with conservation and reduced metabolic output.
HTMA doesn't diagnose trauma.
Nor does it diagnose emotional states.
But when interpreted alongside a person's history, symptoms, lifestyle, and lived experience, it often helps explain why the body has adapted the way it has.
That is incredibly empowering.
Because when we understand the adaptation, we can begin supporting the body differently.
Why I Rarely Chase Symptoms
Many health approaches focus on asking:
"How do we reduce this symptom?"
I prefer asking:
"Why has the body needed this adaptation?"
That question changes everything.
Because instead of fighting the body...
We begin understanding it.
And once the body feels sufficiently supported—physically, emotionally, metabolically, and neurologically—it often becomes far more responsive.
HTMA Is Only One Piece Of The Puzzle
Although HTMA is one of my favourite assessment tools, it is never used in isolation.
Every client is unique.
I also consider:
• your health history
• symptoms
• pathology
• nutrition
• nervous system function
• lifestyle
• emotional wellbeing
• subconscious behavioural patterns
• stress physiology
• sleep
• relationships
• environment
• life experiences
Because health is never created by one system alone.
Healing happens when the ecosystem begins working together again.
This Is Why My Approach Is Different
Over the years my work has evolved beyond nutritional deficiencies.
Today my approach integrates:
• Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA)
• personalised nutrition
• Metabolic Balance®
• nervous system regulation
• psychoneuroimmunology
• trauma-informed coaching
• Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT)
• behaviour change
• subconscious patterning
Because lasting health rarely comes from simply adding another supplement.
It comes from creating the internal conditions where your body has the capacity to respond again.
Imagine Understanding What Your Body Has Been Trying To Tell You
Your body has never been working against you.
It has been adapting.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis allows us to begin understanding those adaptations through a completely different lens.
One that moves beyond symptom chasing and towards understanding the whole person.
Because when we understand how your body has adapted, we can create a strategy that supports you—not just your symptoms.
If you've been doing "all the right things" and still don't feel like yourself, perhaps it isn't because your body isn't trying.
Perhaps it's because no one has yet looked at the whole picture.
I'd love to help you do exactly that.
Are you ready to discover what your mineral patterns might be revealing?
Book an initial consultation and HTMA assessment, and together we'll explore how your body's unique patterns can guide a personalised plan to support energy, resilience, metabolic health, nervous system regulation, and long-term wellbeing.
